FrauVonDa// presents OderHive: Second Stage of a River Journey
The first Berlin OderHive show, taking place in a very special location – a historic boat in Berlin-Mitte.
The unique river landscape of the Oder connects three nations, and is home to diverse life forms.
All too often, these are overlooked, overheard and ignored – as became clear in the 2022 disaster with up to 360 tons of dead fish.
FrauVonDa sets out to open our ears, eyes and minds to the previously unheard underwater world and brings the sounds, vibrations and images ashore. At the margins of the human senses, we immerse ourselves in the perceptions of insects, mussels and fish such as the primeval sturgeon.
FrauVonDa spends several months researching along the Oder, in cooperation with the Leibniz Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB). Claudia van Hasselt and Nicolas Wiese visit people who share their love and commitment for the Oder. They collect images, stories, myths, urgent questions and, above all, a wide variety of underwater sounds from the Oder, with all its diverse life forms.
The artist team transforms the river’s special features into the distinctive form of a hive – interdisciplinary, diverse, in flux, including all perspectives and perceptions, constantly changing and expanding.
At Hošek Contemporary, the first Berlin show of the OderHive project will take place with an audiovisual concert between composition, improvisation, and shifting perceptions towards life underwater.
